Business Financing

Looking into a crystal ball may be one way to determine the future of a business.  A more reliable method is a financial projection. Financial projections are one of the most important resources when plotting the course for your business.  These projections help to determine what revenue a business is likely to generate in the future.  They’re used as tools for obtaining capital, and without the right information, you may lose your financing or receive higher interest rates.  Financial projections are also an excellent indicator of the return a prospective buyer can expect, which will help determine if a business is worth purchasing and for how much.

Obtaining financing.

The financial experts understand the importance of the results of projections.  The outcome affects a wide range of financial decisions.  But perhaps most important of all, they serve as a tool for obtaining debt and equity capital.  Financial projections show lending institutions what to expect from a particular business.  In fact, just going through the process often improves the chances of obtaining financing.  It shows potential lenders or investors that there is a commitment to the future of the business.  And going through the process of preparing financial projections can also shed light on other aspects of a business.  They are an excellent indicator of the direction a business is likely to take in the future.  Once a financial projection has been developed, it forces everyone involved to look at what lies ahead and make plans based on these figures.  For example, a business may decide to proceed with or to delay expansion plans based on the outcome of a projection report.

Buying or selling.

Financial projections are extremely valuable when buying or selling a business.  As a seller, projected earnings can help ensure that the desired price is obtained for a business.  Conversely, if buying a business, a projection may help decide if this is the right business at the right price.  Either way, they can be used as a bargaining tool and as a good indication of what the future may bring.
